Scammers are using a sophisticated "fictitious pickup" method that begins by falsely convincing a legitimate carrier that a load has been canceled. This is not isolated to CHR; it is happening across the industry. The scam typically follows these steps: Information Gathering: Scammers obtain load details through various means, including social engineering (posing as a shipper or broker in phone calls), phishing emails, or scraping data from load boards. The False Cancellation: The scammer, posing as the broker or shipper, contacts the assigned carrier and states the load has been canceled, often providing a fake cancellation number. The Theft: Believing the load is canceled, the legitimate carrier stops their driver. The scammer then uses the stolen load information to either pose as the carrier to the shipper or to dispatch their own truck to the pickup location, stealing the shipment. This is not isolated to CHR only; it is happening across the industry. Calls or emails coming from numbers or domains that are slightly different from the broker’s official ones (e.g., using a Gmail address instead of a corporate one, or a domain like TQL.co instead of TQL.com). Sense of Urgency: The person calling to cancel may be aggressive or pushy, creating pressure to act quickly without thinking. Refusal to Verify: Reluctance or refusal to provide information that can be verified through official channels. Suspicious Follow-up: Receiving a "new" load offer for the same lane almost immediately after a cancellation.
